At Banfield, community support goes beyond veterinary care.

At Banfield, helping pets and the people who love them is more than just a job. We're here to give back and deliver on our purpose: A BETTER WORLD FOR PETS.

In partnership with our charitable arm, Banfield Foundation, Banfield Associates have helped improve the lives of pets through volunteering, fundraising, and creating access to care. Banfield Associates have given their time to impact more than 1 million pets and people since 2013, including thousands of hours spent volunteering with the Banfield Foundation, which has provided more than $23 million in grants since 2015 to nonprofit and animal welfare organizations across the country.

With paid volunteer opportunities across the country for our Associates, Banfield Gives Back is the largest volunteer program of its kind in the veterinary industry!

Expanding access to care	Inspiring the next generation
Banfield Gives Back empowers our Associates to make a difference in their backyards, communities, and across the globe. Our Associates lead and participate in local volunteer events year-round including preventive care clinics for vulnerable pets, organized in partnership with the Banfield Foundation or local nonprofit organizations. Aspiring globe trotters can also apply for volunteer projects with Mars, Inc. that span the globe, spending upwards of a week traveling to help nonprofits and pets in need.	At Banfield, we have a variety of programs that help Banfield doctors and veterinary technicians engage students in their local community to inspire and educate them on the possibilities, benefits, and fulfillment associated with a career in the veterinary profession. This includes Banfield Pet Academy, which has reached more K – 12 students through live presentations than any other career outreach program in the veterinary industry – 120,000 youth in all – and received an honorable mention on Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas list. Our national partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America also allows us to reach youth from historically marginalized communities to foster greater diversity in the veterinary profession.

The Banfield Foundation

Since 2015, Banfield Foundation has been making preventive care possible for the pets that need it most.

Through grants and partnerships, it provides medical supplies and resources to nonprofit partners in need; support pets, people and communities in crisis; and enable veterinary professionals – including Banfield Associates – to deliver compassionate and inclusive preventive veterinary care in under resourced communities areas across the nation.

Commitment to sustainability

A healthy planet is important to supporting a future where pets, people, and the environment flourish.

That’s why we’re committed to supporting and contributing to the Mars, Inc. Sustainable in a Generation Plan, aimed at reducing environmental impact in accordance with Mars’ sustainability goals.

Climate

We’re working to decrease our carbon footprint by measuring and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, sourcing renewable electricity, and improving energy efficiency. We’ve also made a significant investment in a wind farm in Ford Ridge, Illinois, which sources enough renewable electricity to match the nonrenewable electricity purchased for our clinics across the country! Plus, our facilities have upgraded to energy-saving LED lighting and are investing in clinical technologies, like on-site oxygen concentrators that can help reduce the transportation demands associated with oxygen supply.

Waste

We aim to employ circular approaches and follow the waste hierarchy to reduce clinic waste. This looks like reducing the materials and packaging we use, reusing eligible materials and products where appropriate and permitted, increasing recycling through new specialty recycling services, and providing better training and signage in our facilities. Ultimately, our goal is to avoid the creation of waste wherever possible and improve veterinary sustainability.

Associates

Real change is driven by the passion of our people. As a practice, we support our hospital leaders and Associates on the front lines of clinical sustainability. Whether our teams are testing more sustainable programs in their hospitals, managing local waste diversion, or volunteering for environmental community efforts, we believe that every action — big or small — helps create meaningful progress toward a healthier tomorrow.
